The Pastor with the Army of the Lord
Should the pastor be content to feed the flock and administer the sacraments? Does he fulfill his calling by simply edifying the saints and evangelizing the lost? Or is the pastor also called to do more? Is he responsible to equip and mobilize the saints to be on mission and to engage in ministry? Pastor Gary Hendrix addresses these questions in an excellent address entitled “The Pastor with the Army of the Lord.” You can watch and listen below.

Thanks, Dr. Bob for posting this.
P Gary is such a dear man and this particular lesson is always a necessary and timely subject. We need desperately to be reminded of it’s basic and major theme. However, I am not personally sure if I would use the terminology, that there’s nothing more defining of a local church, with regards to its life and purpose, then evangelicalism. I don’t know that we need to choose between other things such as public worship. I know pastor Gary was intentional to clarify the church does “other things,” but, personally I wouldn’t put public worship into the category of “other things,” similar to “making meals.”
But what a convicting and encouraging lesson. May the LORD give us ears to hear!
Mike,
Thanks for listening to the lecture. I’m glad you found it helpful. You’re correct to point out that evangelism is not the sole function of the church militant though it certainly is a primary role this side of glory.
Grace and peace!
